The original Boulder Startup Weekend started this whole project. It was in Boulder, late one night, that the idea was coined. Later, the idea was nudged into reality. And now 7 months later, after 15 Startup Weekend events around the world, it is time to come home.

This seems to indicate to me that SW no longer thinks it can produce a product that can generate even the tiniest of revenue to cover incidental upfront costs over a 2-day period. In essence, you're saying that SW's 5% equity stake isn't worth the beer money.
Here's a few of new slogans:
"Internet Pros, come to Startup Weekend, work your ass off for 2 days, and pay us for it! Hey, you get a t-shirt!"
"Startup Weekend, we say it's about building products but it's mostly just a big party."
"Startup Weekend, like Barcamp but without any technical content and it costs money."

a) make sure we know who will actually show up so we can plan on the correct venue, shirts, etc.
b) offset all the costs (the average weekend costs $4500 to put on, not paying anyone (including myself) a dime.
And most importantly, perhaps, is that the community is the one that called for this action to take place.
How about this tagline, that has rung true since day 1:
"Startup Weekend is about building community."
We would be more than happy to have you included.
