Boulder Startup Weekend II

Started by andrewhyde · 8 months ago

The original Boulder Startup Weekend started this whole project. It was in Boulder, late one night, that the idea was coined. Later, the idea was nudged into reality. And now 7 months later, after 15 Startup Weekend events around the world, it is time to come home.
The Boulder Start ... Continue reading »

  • Over Easter weekend?
  • @Steve yes
  • $40? Really?

This seems to indicate to me that SW no longer thinks it can produce a product that can generate even the tiniest of revenue to cover incidental upfront costs over a 2-day period. In essence, you're saying that SW's 5% equity stake isn't worth the beer money.

Here's a few of new slogans:

"Internet Pros, come to Startup Weekend, work your ass off for 2 days, and pay us for it! Hey, you get a t-shirt!"

"Startup Weekend, we say it's about building products but it's mostly just a big party."

"Startup Weekend, like Barcamp but without any technical content and it costs money."
  • @Sean the $40 was put into place to:
    a) make sure we know who will actually show up so we can plan on the correct venue, shirts, etc.
    b) offset all the costs (the average weekend costs $4500 to put on, not paying anyone (including myself) a dime.

And most importantly, perhaps, is that the community is the one that called for this action to take place.

How about this tagline, that has rung true since day 1:

"Startup Weekend is about building community."

We would be more than happy to have you included.
  • Damn, will miss this! I'll be back East for Easter. Bummer, hope everyone has a blast!!
  • Any way to see who has already signed up?
  • @Devin, good idea, I should do that right now.

  • It's going to be my first start up weekend, and I'm sooooo excited. My good friend, Juilie Penner, has been raving about it.

Can't wait to meet a bunch of interesting people, have fun, and do something cool.
  • Just bought my ticket... looking forward to hackin' with ya'll!
  • @Wylie Nelson welcome!

@Brett Borders will be good to see you there!
  • Do we have a site yet? I haven't personally received any info as to where, when etc.
  • Question - If I have Easter Sunday brunch plans, can I leave for that component and then come back?
  • @Elaine that would be no problem at all.
  • Where in Boulder will this be happening? All it says above is "at the CU". Or is it supposed to be like an egg hunt where we have to find a group of entrepreneurs among the students on campus?
  • This will be my first SW, and I was curious if there will be a post or an email containing the agenda for Friday night, Sat, Sun. Also, i was unclear if we should be submitting concept pitch ideas yet, or if it is more of an "open outcry" session on Friday night.

    Thanks!
